What's Trending This Fall: Hair Color, Cuts, and Treatments We Love
Pumpkin spice is officially back on the menu, and around the salon, that's usually the first sign our color conversations start to shift. Every fall, we find ourselves pulling inspiration from the leaves outside, and this year is no exception. Here's what we're loving right now for color, moisture, and cut, and how to bring it to life at your next visit.
Getting Moisture Back Into Your Hair
Before we get to color, let's talk repair. Summer sun, chlorine, and salt water can leave hair feeling dry and a little worse for wear by the time fall rolls around, and the best color starts with healthy hair underneath it.
If your strands need a reset, we usually recommend starting with a treatment. R+CO's hydration line is great for restoring softness and shine to dry, thirsty hair, while their bond building treatment is a good fit if your hair has felt weaker or more fragile from color or heat styling. We'll help you figure out which one your hair actually needs.
We also love adding a Redken Shades EQ clear gloss to a service. It doesn't change your color, but it seals the cuticle, boosts shine, and leaves hair feeling smoother, so it's a nice finishing touch no matter what shade you're going for this fall.
Color Inspiration for Every Shade
Brunettes Fall is a great time to add dimension. Face-framing highlights can bring some life back into brunette hair without a full color change, or you can go the other direction and deepen your base to something rich and chocolatey for the season. Both are easy to layer into your regular color schedule.
Blondes We're seeing blonde lean warmer and more golden this fall, moving away from the cooler, brighter tones of summer. If you're looking to stretch time between appointments, a root smudge or shadow root is a great option, it softens the grow-out line so you can go longer without a touch-up. And if you want to feel a little darker without committing to an all-over color change, a lowlight is a nice way to test the waters.
Reds Red is having a real moment right now. Whether you're already a redhead or thinking about trying it, this is the season to go for it, deeper hues, copper tones, and dimension all feel right at home against a fall backdrop. Adding lowlights or subtle dimension keeps red from looking flat and gives it more depth as it grows out.
Cuts We're Loving This Fall
On the cut side, a few trends keep coming up in the chair:
Bobs are everywhere this season, and we're big fans. They're chic with a turtleneck, they show off a scarf beautifully, and they just feel right for fall. Curtain bangs and shags are also having a moment, both easy, face-framing options that work with a lot of hair types.
Layers are back in a big way too. Think 90s blowout energy, soft, voluminous, movement-focused layers, basically if you've been picturing a Rachel haircut, you're not alone. It's a look that keeps coming back for a reason.
